What Our Investment Advisor Wont Say Off The Bat
Most advisors will tell you they can beat the market. They may even point to years in which they did. But now you will learn the little known fact that is seldom mentioned outside the financial world. It is very, very, VERY DIFFICULT TO BEAT THE MARKET. The market in the United States, for the most, part is efficient. In fact the stock market is so hard to beat that most of the professionals do not do it. The only thing an investor should be looking at from an investment point if he/she uses a discount broker is the risk side. They should forget trying to beat the market with one exception. The fact is that the market in the United States and most of the developed nations' markets reflect all the known public information in the current share price. That does mean that they are perfectly priced. Far from it, stories such as WorldCom, Enron and others make certainly possible to beat the market with non-public information. The only way to make a superior return on the market is to have insider information, and trading with that is a crime in America. If you are trying to invest, try not to beat the market. Make long-term decisions and leave beating the market to the professionals. David Healy has spent years studying finance. My Neighbor Got A New Car I don't know what kind it is, but I saw it on TV running full speed along the shore (I don't live near the shore) throwing up spray or maybe it was that one climbing up the steep mountain trail thru the mud, rocks and snow. Very exciting. (I don't live near the mountains either.) WOW! Just what I need. How We Eluded The Bear Of 2000 The date October 13, 2000 will forever be embedded in my mind. It was the day after our mutual fund trend tracking indicator had broken its long-term trend line and I sold 100% of my clients' invested positions (and my own) and moved the proceeds to the safety of money market accounts. Some people thought we were nuts, but I had come to trust the numbers. Mid-Cap Stocks: Asset Class with an Identity Crisis Much like the middle child, mid-cap stocks have long struggled to find their identity. Carved out from the upper echelons of the small caps and the lower end of the large caps, the mid-cap sector has a rough definition of stock with a market capitalization of greater than $2 billion, but less than $10 billion. Taking components from both worlds, some analysts argue that mid-cap stocks can offer growth opportunities found in the small caps and the relative stability found in the large caps. 10 Tips For Creating Wealth From the Stock Market 1. Do not spread your money too thin. Successful Trading ? Taking Profits - Part 2 Suppose your position has made a big move and you moved your stop to your purchase price as recommended. Then let's say your stock continues to make a big move and now we're asking again the questions we asked back in the first paragraph. The first profit taking technique you can use is a trailing stop. If you moved your stop to your purchase price, then you've already used a trailing stop. Now you can continue to move your stop up as the price rises until the market "stops" you out of the position. So in essence, what you're doing is letting the market decide when to take profits. Emotional Maturity If you are going to be a winner in the stock market you must have emotional maturity. The thinking process of the brain relating to the psychology of trading involves: VIX No, this is not a symbol for some Latin number. The Wall Street mavens talk about this market timing device as if they knew how to use it to determine which way the stock market is going ? up or down. It is pretty obvious that brokers, analysts and financial planners have not learned the language. The Information Age It is wonderful to be alive in the information age. We know in a matter of seconds the change in the value of gold in Switzerland, the death of a world leader or the birth of a peasant in Israel. Evaluation II As I said in Part I everyone in the insane asylum looks normal, but at least the doctors are sane. Unfortunately, in the insane asylum known as the stock market all the doctors (brokers) are also insane. Price Targets Every day in any financial publication you will find the Wall Street mavens giving their predictions on many stocks. It was issued here and should go there. It has often been said that there is only two ways to get hurt really bad on a stock trade, getting caught in a "death spiral" by not using DTM: Decisive Trade Management in the way of stop loses and having a stock halted on you. Halts you have zero control over. Death spirals are of your own making if you do not practice the use of stop loses.
